The Department of Teaching and Learning delivers K-12 teacher education programs, conducts research, and provides professional service to school-based educational practice at local, state, national, and international levels. Our mission is accomplished through:
Research to Practice
Emily Lin received her Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education-University of Toronto, Canada. She is the Past Director of Teacher Education for the College of Education and is the current Chair for the Department of Teaching and Learning at UNLV.
Jeffrey Shih is an associate professor of elementary mathematics education that joined the UNLV faculty in 1999. Dr. Shih earned a B.A. in Statistics with a minor in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Graduate Program Coordinator
Travis Olson is an associate professor of mathematics education in the Department of Teaching and Learning who joined the UNLV faculty in 2009. Dr. Olson's current research continues to focus on curriculum analysis studies and implications on students' opportunities to learn and teachers' opportunities to teach particular mathematics concepts.
Doctoral Program Co-Coordinator
Dr. P. G. Schrader is a professor of educational technology in the department of Teaching and Learning, co-coordinator for doctoral programs for the department, and assessment coordinator for STEM on UNLV's Gear-Up project. He is also a research scientist in the Center for Research, Evaluation, and Assessment at UNLV.
Dr. Hasan Deniz is an Associate Professor of Science Education, currently teaching masters level science methods courses. Dr. Deniz is an active researcher in the areas of students' epistemological beliefs in science and teaching evolution.
